Not my usual sort of fitness gif to post but I’m sure you’ll understand that I just couldn’t resist the urge ;)

He’s cute. He’s tall.
He’s got gorgeous eyes.
And a stunning smile.
I didn’t say a name, but he
popped into your head,
didn’t he?

1. I had a nightmare and I was screaming. I heard you open the door to check if I was okay. You stood there for a few minutes and looked me over to check if I was in any “real danger” and then you sighed and closed the door. You knew I wasn’t okay but you left anyway.

2. I came home from school one day and I was so excited to tell you that I made honor roll. Do you remember how you reacted? You asked me if it was because you helped my teacher that one time and then you laughed and that was it. I sat there waiting for you to tell me you were proud of me or that you were happy I was happy but it never came.

3. I asked you why you scream at me so much because I know that sometimes I don’t even deserve it and you told me it was because you had no one else to scream at.

4. I stopped talking for a few weeks and you threatened to send me away because of it. I’m still hurt that you had the audacity to treat me like baggage you could just send away whenever you wanted.

5. You drove me to a point where I couldn’t look at you in the eyes anymore. It hurt too much.

Oh my God, what if you wake up some day, and you’re 65, or 75, and you never got your memoir or novel written; or you didn’t go swimming in warm pools and oceans all those years because your thighs were jiggly and you had a nice big comfortable tummy; or you were just so strung out on perfectionism and people-pleasing that you forgot to have a big juicy creative life, of imagination and radical silliness and staring off into space like when you were a kid? It’s going to break your heart. Don’t let this happen. Repent just means to change direction — and NOT to be said by someone who is waggling their forefinger at you. Repentance is a blessing. Pick a new direction, one you wouldn’t mind ending up at, and aim for that. Shoot the moon.

Anne Lamott, via the inimitably brilliant Brain Pickings (via tmichaelmartin)

I’ve always loved this quote, and the perspective Lamott is so good at giving. So many of my preoccupying wishes are puny and annoying, the fly buzzing around the room that is so insistent in its noise it becomes the story of your days.
